The Chapel Organ
Music
Rooms and Facilities
Practice
Room, New Court Basement
An upright piano and a drum kit are available. Instrumental players
may practice here without disturbing anyone. The door key is available
to CCMS members from the porters. This is a brand new facility as part
of the New Court refurbishment work so please treat it with respect. You
must be on the CCMS list that is kept with the porters to use this room.
If you wish to be added to the list then please email the
secretary.
Access to this room is down the stairs next to the JCR and straight ahead.
Lloyd
Room, Stevenson Building, Third Court
An upright piano and plenty of space for ensembles to practice.
Booking and keys available from the porters' lodge. Access to this room
is more restricted than use of the New Court rehearsal facility (due to
the many uses this room is put to during term) and so you are advised
to consult the
Chairman
if you wish to book this room for a CCMS function.
Plumb
Auditorium, Z Staircase
A Bechstein grand piano is available. This space is primarily
used for Fellows and so access to this piano is heavily restricted. To
rehearse here you must be approved by the Director of Music. For more
advice on this please email the
chairman.
There is also a small committee room next door to the Plumb Auditorium
called the Sosnow Room. This contains an upright piano and is available
for practice in the same manner as the Plumb.
Chapel,
First Court
The chapel houses a Kawai grand piano and a Bishop organ. Access
to this facility should be obtained via the porters. You must be on the
CCMS maintained list to be able to use this space. Please contact the
chairman.
Instrument
Access
Pianists
Advanced pianists should contact Professor David Rowland (P staircase,
or email Chairman) to negotiate access to the Plumb and Chapel pianos.
Keys for both are available from the porters' lodge. Other Pianos are
available upon agreement with the Music Society, please contact the
secretary.
Organists
Organists should contact Professor David Rowland (P staircase,
or email Chairman) to negotiate access. Priority is given to the organ
scholars. The organ is accessible through the vestry, and keys are available
from the porters.
Other
Instrumentalists
CCMS does not generally have access
to other instruments but there are possibilities (and arrangements have
been made in the past) for arrangements to be made with university societies
on your behalf. If you do wish to discuss gaining access to an instrument
in college then please contact the
chairman
to discuss this further. We are heavily restricted by our budget but will
generally do as much as we can to allow instrumentalists in college to
get involved.
