12/03/2012 - AGM

Our Annual General Meeting was held, with a new committee elected. The outgoing Chair, Kerri-Anne Edinburgh, congratulated the society on all its hard work in the past year, including our recital series, Michaelmas and Lent concerts (including Mozart's Requiem performed at GSM), and social events.

03/03/2012 - Mozart's Requiem and other works

CCMS's flagship event in Great St. Mary's Church this year welcomed its largest audience in recent years. A fantastic performance was given, including Christ's Orchestra playing Beethoven's 'Egmont' Overture (conducted by Alex Platts) and Mozart's Flute Concerto in D (conducted by Alice Sackville Hamilton, with flute soloist Rosie Bowker) before joing Christ's Voices for a performance of Mozart's Requiem (conducted by Eleanor Wilson, and featuring Alice Higgins, Helen Simpkiss, David Halstead and Alex Greaves as soloists).

27/01/2012 - CCMS Annual Dinner

Today we held the CCMS Annual Dinner. Society members enjoyed an evening of fun, fine food and laughter!

21/01/2012 - Charles Blackham Recital Competition

Today we held the second Annual Recital Competion, in honour of our late Chairman, Charles Blackham. The competition was between five candidates who performed an outstanding variety of music from Sigfrid Karg-Elert's Sonata Appassionata for solo flute to an arrangement of a tradition Chinese folk song (deep in the bamboo forest) for the Hulusi (a wind instrument with chanter and two drones). The candidates were Miranda Pottinger (mezzo sporano), Philip Chen (Hulusi and Bawa), Nathan Hudson-Peacock (B flat and D trumpets) Rosie Bowker (flute) and Zara Reid (clarinet). Congratulations go to Rosie Bowker as the winner.

26/11/2011 - Christmas Concert

CCMS's Annual Christmas Concert took place today in the Chapel. It saw performances from Christ's Voices, the newly formed Barbershop group, and Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite by Christ's Orchestra. The Christmas Party was held afterwards.

04/11/2011 - Week Five Blues

In collaboration with the JCR, CCMS once again helped to bash the Week Five Blues with a jazz night! Christ's Jazz performed extremely well, and the relaxed and exciting atmosphere was appreciated by every stressed student!

10/10/2011 - New Year Begins!

Today saw the Committee Recital and the Fresher's Squash, signs that the new year has begun! Voices will continue every Monday night this term, as well as Orchestra on a Wednesday, and Jazz on a Friday.

22/06/2011 - May Week

After yesterday's fantastic recital by William Wallis and Roxy Summerfield, the CCMS Garden Party took place. A good time was had by all. A May Week concert was also held today, featuring a performance by Christ's Voices.

14/05/2011 - Committee Recital

Once again, the CCMS Committee presented a varied programme, extending from the sublime to the ridiculous!

07/05/2011 - Charles Blackham Memorial Competition

Christ’s College Music Society held what is hoped to be the first of a long tradition of recital competitions, in honour of the Society’s late Chairman, Charles Blackham. Congratulations go to Nathan Hudson-Peacock, the first winner of the Charles Blackham Recital Prize. The winner was announced by Mrs Sally Blackham, to whom a huge thank you is extended and without whom the competition would not have come to fruition.

06/05/2011 - Acoustic Night

Continuing this new event started by the JCR, CCMS for the first time helped organise this term's Acoustic Night. Contemporary music was enjoyed in the informal setting that is the Buttery.

15/03/2011 - AGM

The AGM was today held, with a complete committee elected. It was preceded by a Recital of Wind Instruments, featuring a Wind Quintet, Clarinet Duet, Woodwind Trio and Brass Quintet.

12/03/2011 - Britten's Saint Nicolas and Other Works

Once again, CCMS put on a greatly successful conert in Great St. Mary's Church As well as performances by the Orchestra (conducted by David Halstead and Alex Platts) featuring Nathan Hudson-Peacock on the cornet, Christ's Voices (directed by William Wallis) performed the epic 'Saint Nicolas' by Benjamin Britten, accompanied by string orchestra, and with assistance from the choristers of Great St. Mary's Church. Congratulations to all involved.

28/01/2011 - David Rowland in Recital

History was made as Professor David Rowland, Director of Music and Honarary President of the Society, gave his first Organ Recital in living memory. The CCMS Dinner (immediately afterwards) was also a fantastic success.

21/01/2011 - Jazz Improvisation Workshop

A very exciting start to Lent Term as Guest Musicians from CUJO came to show jazz players how to improvise in a 3 hour interactive workshop. Featuring CUJO Presidents Liam Dunachie (Piano) and Tom Green (Trombone), as well as other top-class players.

06/11/2010 - Week Five Blues

On Saturday 6th November CCMS and the JCR helped students beat the Week 5 Blues with a Jazz night in the New Court Function Room. There was a relaxed cafe atmosphere with cocktails, chatting, and the smooth stylings of JAMSOC.

22/10/2010 - Committee Recital

Performances were seen from all the committee members to kick off this term's recital series. Keep an eye out for publicity on future Friday Night recitals.

03/10/2010 - New Term Begins

Voices returns on a Monday, 8pm in the Lloyd Room, being conducted this year by Junior Organ Scholar Mark Roberts, and 2nd Year Music Student David Halstead. Also JAMSOC recommences on a Saturday Night, 8PM in the Function Room, working towards this term's Week Five Blues Event.

17/06/2010 - May Week Concert

This saw performances from Christ's JAMSOC, Siegfried Idyll, the Clarinet Quartet, and the diverse vocal talent of Henry Li.

14/06/2010 - CCMS Garden Party

Members of CCMS enjoyed Pimm's and strawberries in the Fellow's Garden. With entertainment from JAMSOC and a singalong led by the Voices Directors, Helen Wilson and Roxy Summerfield, a fantastic afternoon was had by all.

EASTER 2010 - Recitals to Relax

This terms's recitals provided an opportubity for Christ's members to relax during this stressful time. They included Sergei Podobedov on the Piano, Christ's JAMSOC, the Clarinet Quartet and Mark Roberts on the Organ.

23/04/10 - Piano Recital

Given by soloist Sergei Podobedov at 8:00pm, arranged by Christ's College Music Society. The program included works by Bach, Chopin and Prokofiev. "Russian-born Sergei Podobedov has received rave reviews since making his first orchestral debut aged 12, performing Chopin's 2nd Piano Concerto. Described by critics as "an exciting and compelling artist", he has toured throughout the US, Europe, and Russia and has broadcast performances on numerous radio stations.

05/03/10 - Baritones in Recital

A large audience was entertained on Friday 5th March in Christ's College Chapel by baritones Edwin Hillier, performing works by Bach and Wolf, and John Barber, performing Vaughan Williams' Song Cycle 'Songs of Travel'. In the last of the Lent Term recital series.

27/02/10 - Carmina Burana

Our annual concert in the University Church was once again a wonderful success. As well as performances by the Orchestra (conducted by Tom Leakey and featuring Helen Wilson and Alex Shannon in Albinoni's Double Oboe Concerto, Christ's Voices (directed by Roxy Summerfield) performed Karl Orff's great 'Carmina Burana', accompanied by percussion and piano duet (Alex Greaves and Sam Hayes), and with assistance from the choristers of Great St. Mary's Church. Congratulations to all involved
